Splendor of Baroque and charm of Viennese classicism at KSO's season concert on April 16th

The KSO's season series concert on the 16th of April will offer the audience Baroque dance forms and charming early Viennese classicism. The orchestra will be conducted by the early music specialist Reinhard Goebel. The composers of the evening include the French Jean-Féry Rebel, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Pierre Montan Berton as well as the Austrian Joseph Haydn and the German Johann Christian Bach.

Music of season concert on 3rd of April shows new realities of post-World War II world

The KSO's concert on the 3rd of April offers a glimpse into the contradictory realities of the post-World War II world. The concert will open with Bohuslav Martinů's Overture, which reflects a new optimism. Senja Rummukainen, familiar to the Kuopio audience, will perform Mieczysław Weinberg's melodic Cello Concerto. The concert will end with Dimitri Shostakovich's satirical 9th ​​Symphony conducted by Eugene Tzigane.

In Paradisum concert on 27th of March features peaceful works

The KSO's concert on the 27th of March will take the audience to music full of peace. The concert will feature Maurice Ravel's Pavane and Couperin's Tomb, as well as Arvo Pärt's Cantus in memoriam of Benjamin Britten. The evening will conclude with Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, conducted by Ruut Kiiski, in which soprano Mari Palo, baritone Petteri Salomaa and the Sibelius Academy choirs will perform with the KSO.

MEET THE ORCHESTRA

 

Meet the Musicians

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.

Audience Outreach

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.

Enjoy our concerts in YouTube. The orchestra's YouTube Channel introduces concerts by the KSO chamber music ensembles and individual musicians as well as the whole Kuopio Symphohy Orchestra. The concerts have been either recorded or livestreamed from Restaurant Maxim in Kuopio or at the orchestra’s home, ie. at the Kuopio Music Centre.
