Piano artist Kirill Kozlovski as the soloist of Mozart’s concerto

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s season concert on Thursday 12th of September at 6 p.m. offers the audience both melancholy and elegance. As the soloist we will hear the Finnish-Belarusian pianist and musicologist Kirill Kozlovski, who will interpret his favorite among Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s piano concertos, number 22 at the Kuopio Music Centre’s Concert Hall. After the intermission Antonin Dvořák’s 7th symphony, which is full of Czech nationalism, offers true bohemianism. The concert begins with Elfrida Andrée’s stirring overture conducted by Tomáš Netopil.

The KSO’s Melancholy and Elegance concert on September 12th starts with the Swedish composer Elfrida Andrée’s Overture in G minor. Andrée published her first compositions anonymously, and the audience was greatly surprised when it was revealed that the author behind the works was a woman. Andrée’s overture in G minor was premiered at the Stockholm restaurant and entertainment center Berns salon in 1864. Perhaps as a harbinger of things to come, the composer wrote Mendelssohn lives in the score.

In Piano Concerto No. 22, one of the gems of Mozart’s piano concertos, you can enjoy the expressive dialogue between the piano and the orchestra and the rich use of wind instruments. The evening’s soloist, Kirill Kozlovski, especially likes the second part of the concert, where yearning and melancholy are combined with glorious orchestration and unfailing elegance. Kozlovski is a familiar figure to Finnish audiences, especially as a lied pianist. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed not only in Finland but also at several international festivals in different parts of Europe.

After the intermission, Antonin Dvořák’s 7th Symphony will be heard, the beginning of which the composer was inspired by the return of his compatriots to Prague after the political protests in Pest, Hungary. You can feel the excitement and revolution in the first and last movements of the symphony – enchanting beauty in the slow movements and deep pride in the folk dance influenced Scherzo. This passionate work is full of Czech national feeling, but also leans on the harmonious world of the Romantic period. The orchestra is conducted by the chief guest of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Tomáš Netopil.

On the same day, 12th of September at 12 noon you are invited to enjoy the open rehearsal of the KSO, where the orchestra will play excerpts of the evening concert’s programme under the baton of Tomáš Netopil. Admission to the open rehearsal is free. In addition, you can enjoy restaurant Oodi’s bufet in the Hall of Light between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The price of lunch is 12 euros.

Before the concert, at 5:30 pm in the Kuopio Music Centre Hall of Light, a Pre-Talk event open to everyone is organized.  At the beginning, a music performance will be heard from Akari Itkonen, who studies at the Kuopio Conservatory, playing the violin. The accompanist is Emma Jääskeläinen / piano.

Tickets: 33 € / 27 € senior citizens and groups min. 20 persons / 11 € children under the age of 16 and students / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and young people under the age of 20.
