Join us on a musical journey where the hot nights of Andalusia come alive with the melodies of zarzuela, the modern Argentine tango echoes through the streets of Buenos Aires, Senegal’s rhythms pulse irresistibly, and the deep longing of fado intersects with the unique landscape of Karelia in a remarkable way.

There are endless music cultures around the world that deserve to be heard. This concert is an opportunity to open your ears and heart to new sounds, rhythms, and emotions. Embark on an expedition that transcends borders and brings us together through the power of music!

Zarzuela (Beatriz Macias) is a Spanish musical theater genre that combines songs, spoken scenes, dance, and stage action. It is a kind of Spanish equivalent to operetta and originated in the 17th century, but it particularly evolved in the 18th and 19th centuries. Zarzuela often features influences from Spanish folk music, such as flamenco, jote, and seguidillo, and it has maintained its popularity especially in Spain and Latin America.

Argentine contemporary tango (Martin Alvarado) combines elements of traditional tango with jazz, classical music, and electronic influences. The music retains a sense of feeling and drama while continuously renewing itself.

Senegalese music (Ismaila Sané) is rhythmically rich and diverse, rooted in traditions like mbalax, popularized by Youssou N’Dour. Sabar drums create complex polyrhythms, and griot singers convey historical stories. Afrobeat, hip-hop, and jazz have blended with traditional rhythms, creating a dynamic music culture.

Fado is a melancholic singing tradition where guitar accompaniment expresses fate, love, and the sailors’ longing. The melancholic tone of fado deeply touches the soul. Interpreted by Kirsi Poutanen, fado draws from Karelia’s singing tradition, which includes runo songs, lamentations, and folk songs. The verses and traditional melodies preserve ancient stories and emotions.
